Our Bold Move: Self-Distribution
At Brockton Beer Company, we are thrilled to announce a significant shift in our operations—we have taken the reins of our distribution! This move marks a bold new chapter for us as we step into self-distribution, directly connecting with retailers and bringing our brews closer to you, our valued customers.
Embracing the Challenge
In late 2023, we faced a crossroads. One of our two distributors folded, and the other wasn't the right fit for our size and vision. Inspired by the idea of controlling our own destiny, we decided to embark on the journey of self-distribution. It's a move that requires moxie, but we believe it’s the right step to ensure the quality and availability of our beer.
The Power of Direct Relationships
By cutting out the middleman, we can now build direct relationships with retailers, ensuring our beers are always fresh and readily available. Our co-founder Eval Silvera shared, “Most breweries we talked to said it's better to control your own destiny.” This sentiment resonated with us deeply. We are now on the shelves of around 40 locations, including package stores and restaurants, within the first month of this new strategy.
Navigating Legal Hurdles
Massachusetts alcohol laws required us to change our operating license to self-distribute. With unanimous approval from Brockton's License Commission, we transitioned from an “All Alcoholic Beverages Restaurant” permit to a “Farmers Series Pouring Permit for Malt Beverages.” This change is a crucial step in our journey, and we are actively supporting legislative efforts to make it easier for craft brewers across the state to follow suit.
Enhancing the Brockton Beer Experience
For our loyal patrons at the Brockton Beer brewpub, you’ll notice a few exciting changes. While we’re adding wine and cider to our offerings, mixed drinks like vodka tonics will no longer be available. This adjustment allows us to focus more on our core passion—crafting and serving exceptional beer.
Creating Buzz and Building Community
Part of our strategy involves creating word-of-mouth buzz. Imagine enjoying a Brockton Beer at North Easton's Corfinio Wood-Fired Italian Kitchen and then crossing the street to grab a four-pack at Shovelshop Spirits or Pop's Fine Wines. This direct connection with both restaurants and package stores not only boosts our visibility but also strengthens our community ties.
A Stellar Product, A Stellar Story
We believe in the quality of our product and the strength of our story. As one of the handful of Black-owned breweries in Massachusetts, we are committed to making our mark in the craft beer industry. Co-founder Eval Silvera aptly stated, “We know we have a stellar product and a stellar story”.
We are excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings to work directly with our retailers and customers. Keep an eye out for Brockton Beer in your local stores and restaurants, and join us in this exciting journey of self-distribution.
Cheers to controlling our destiny and bringing the best of Brockton Beer to you!
